The Photo Madness Begins

I am jumping out of my seat!

In a month, I’ll officially be in my “dirty thirties.” To console me celebrate with me, Hubsters bought me two early birthday presents. One of them was a Canon Rebel XSi. People, it is the most beautiful piece of technology that $730 can buy.

My Papa bought me my very first lens—a Canon EF 50mm f1.4. I LOVE THIS LENS. It has a very shallow depth of field and makes a nice blurry background (I think photographer people call it bokeh or something), perfect for portrait shooting and taking nice close ups of my greeting cards.:-)

Hubs also bought me a Tamron lens. The comparable Canon version costs $1000+. We opted to buy a similar $400 Tamron version. I haven’t tested this one yet, but it received rave reviews on Amazon.

I’ve been digging my nose into plenty of photography tutorials and I’m ready for some practice. Anyone up for a photo excursion?:-)

Just looking through your archives, and I wanted to say thanks for this post on your “equipment”. I’ve had a Canon XLT for a few years now, and I have been coveting (and crying over) the pricey Canon 24-70mm L series lens that I cannot afford. (I currently have the kit lens, a 70-300mm lens that I foolishly bought and rarely use, and the “nifty fifty” which I love.) I looked into the Tamron lenses on Amazon, and they have a 28-75mm which has great reviews, and is 1/3 the cost of the Canon lens. I think I may be able to convince the hubs that this is a good buy (once I’m employed again, that is)!

[...] photos were taken by my trusty compact point and shoot, since I hadn’t received the digital Rebel yet from Hubsters [...]
