Thoughts of You Are Happy Thoughts

What, if anything, are your plans for Valentine’s day? Hubs and I never plan anything. He’s a marketer so he believes V-day is a big marketing ploy to suck money out of consumers. Even as newlyweds last year, we ate a simple dinner at home. Hubs gave me a singing card and a chocolates in a heart shaped box as a gag gift. This year, we’ll probably have a night in also. Sometimes I feel as though we’re supposed to do something special. For goodness sakes, we’re newlyweds after all. I’m just curious, are we oddballs or are there other non celebrating couples?

The card I’m sharing today looks complicated, but it’s super easy. The envelope is Sizzix scalloped envelope die, which fits perfectly on a card front. I punched the hearts from the Heart to Heart punch in the current catty, then stuck them to the card front with stampin’ dimensionals. I suppose this would make a fitting Valentine’s day card… too bad we don’t celebrate!

Project Recipe (all supplies SU unless noted): Goody Goody Gumdrops stamp set (hostess set), Love You Much stamp set, card stock in close to cocoa, whisper white, riding hood red, pink pirouette, ink in riding hood red, twine, scalloped border punch, heart to heart punch, Sizzix scalloped envelope die, stampin’ dimensionals, button from Walmart

This year, for our first married Valentine’s Day… we won’t even be seeing each other. My husband is working a 36-hour overnight shift in the hospital, and since he’s further out and we share a car, I can’t drive a tray of cookies or brownies over for him and his fellow residents to enjoy.

So, instead, I am inviting over one of my best friends (a single guy) and cooking all my favorite foods for dinner and ending with chocolate fondue. Which is probably exactly what I would have done with my husband had he not been on call… but instead of “romantic” it will just be fun with a friend. :)

I actually kinda love Valentine’s Day and always have. Well, I love parts of it. I love making Valentine’s Day cards that I send out to family and friends and I love all the cutesy hearts and red and pink. But I don’t really buy the typical Valentine’s Day stuff. I make my own.

Hubby and I get each other something but its something small and has price restrictions on it. We don’t ever go out to dinner on Valentine’s Day though, that has always been one part of it that I have never bought into.

I’ll actually be gone for thee of valentines day so no buying into the consumerism from us. Husband has been told never ever ever to buy me ridiculously overpriced flowers for v-day, but to go ahead and buy me all the flowers on sale that he wants after the fact :)

The only romantic thing I’ve gotten my man to do is every year, he makes my V-day card using my scrapbooking/stamping supplies. It’s hilarious to watch him lock himself in the craft room and wrestle with the paper cutter and stickers, and come out two hours later looking like he’s back from a war zone. But his creations always end up being so thoughtful (and memorable)!

my bf and i don’t do much, then again it’s hard when you’re in two different states! but we always send each other a little something and try our best to hang out together on the phone.

We don’t celebrate V-day either– our anniversary is in Feb, so we just take a weekend trip or splurge on a night out after the V-day hype has died down. It makes things a lot easier!

We don’t celebrate Valentine’s day either. Neither of us enjoys the crowds on that day, and we feel it’s another excuse to spend money we really don’t have. Last year he gave me a cross for that holiday, but it was mostly our anniversary gift with a bit of V-day thrown in :) .

we don’t celebrate either..we’ve tried in the past, but it just ends up breaking the bank. I feel like we’re supposed to do something, but every place is so expensive and requires reservations (for dinner) in advance. btw, i’m totally loving the card you made! so cute!!

Me and my bf are just having a casual dinner; at an Italian place he and his family rave about. Valentine’s is also our anniversary so it is a special day to us :D .

I do love all the Valentines decor. What a cute card you made!

My guy grew up without celebrating most “Hallmark” Holidays. So we don’t usually do anything. Last year he surprised me with a new Coach purse, Yay for me, but as for him – he’s hard to shop for as it is, so I usually make him a little card. That’s about it. Oh and we’ve been together for 5.5 years, I don’t think it’ll change.

I came across your blog through a link from the Wedding Bee and I’m so happy I did! I love you work and this card! I do (or shall I say, used to) do Stampin Up as well, but been so busy lately. I’m going to make a vday card for my BF so thanks for the inspiration!
